The International Community’s Response

1.) When did UN officials receive warning about the genocide?
The knew it was going to happen 3 months before, because a person told them and asked for troops and held. The UN ignored them and then 3 months later it came true.

2.) Besides the warning given by one of the planners, what were other warning signs of the genocide?
The training of militia in Rwanda, perpetrators gave weapons aways openly, the government sent hate propaganda through the radio, and death lists were made with addresses of Tutsis that should die.

3.) How did state-sponsored propaganda present the Tutsi group?
They showed the Tutsis as evil, manipulative people. Also their goal was to regain power to hurt the Hutu. They said you have to shorten the Tutsis. Which that meant kill them.

4.) What prevented the international community from calling the violence in Rwanda “genocide”? What would have happened if they had?
After the Holocaust when 6 million jews died the international community adopted and agreement which supporters thought would ensure that genocide would never happen again. We would have got very involved with the genocide and could of stopped the radio broadcasts and our troops could have overwhelmed their weak troops. If we did call it a genocide we maybe could of put in a stop to it.

5.) Once the international community withdrew its troop, what did the militia decide to do?
They decided to intensify the genocide by targeting the resisters and officials who tried to stop the genocide.

6.) Who does President Clinton say must share responsibility for the genocide?
He must share responsibility for the genocide because they did not act fast enough to stop it, also they should have called it by its rightful name a genocide. They let the killers act fast enough to make the refugee camps safe heavens for them.
